The Principle of Reed Diffusers: Finished aromatic liquids are diffused into the air via specific carriers-such as rattan reeds, dried grasses and flowers, or cotton wicks-thereby filling the atmosphere with fragrance and achieving effects such as air purification and the enhancement of physical and mental well-being.
The mechanism behind reed diffusers ingeniously combines both physical and chemical properties. It relies primarily on "capillary action" and "evaporation" to disperse scent: when reeds are inserted into a container holding the aromatic liquid, the liquid travels upward through the tiny pores within the reeds-a process known as capillary action. Once the liquid reaches the tips of the reeds, it naturally evaporates upon contact with the surrounding air, thereby releasing its fragrance into the space.
The aromatic liquid itself typically consists of a blend of a carrier oil (such as an odorless vegetable oil) and either fragrance oils or essential oils. The carrier oil serves to regulate the rate of evaporation, ensuring a continuous release of scent, while the fragrance or essential oils provide the actual aroma and therapeutic benefits. The rate of evaporation is influenced by factors such as temperature, airflow, and the number and material of the reeds used; consequently, one can adjust these variables to control both the intensity and the longevity of the fragrance.
A key advantage of this mechanism is that it requires neither an open flame nor electricity, making it highly safe and ideally suited for use in enclosed environments or everyday living spaces, such as bedrooms and offices. Furthermore, the manner in which the reeds absorb and evaporate the liquid allows the fragrance to diffuse slowly and evenly, preventing an overwhelming burst of scent and instead delivering a lasting, natural aromatic experience.
